LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Concerns

Many people do not fit within heterosexual boundaries: being attracted only to persons of the opposite sex, feeling 100% secure in their bodies.

These persons may have many concerns which can be helped by discussion with an experienced, confidential professional. Some of these concerns are
  • Feeling rejected by family and friends
  • Not fitting in at school
  • Getting called names, being victimized
  • Fears of getting kicked out of the house
  • Feelings of loss of dreams of the ideal family
  • Questions about religion and faith
  • Being isolated, lack of friends
  • Worries about ‘being found out’ at work
  • Dating and relationship conflicts
  • Having a partner who is more or less open about sexuality issues
  • Questions about causes of non-heterosexual feelings
  • Worries about telling one’s parents or children
  • Uncertainties about raising children
  • Concerns about getting along with a partner’s family
Not fitting in to heterosexual norms is confusing for everyone. Even the terms in use are bewildering: gay parents, tranny, dyke, bisexual, homosexual, heterosexual privilege, queer, and more. Parents who discover their child’s sexual orientation may have fears for the child’s future. Teens may need safe places to socialize and ask questions. Teachers and friends might need information about how to support others. Talking with an experienced professional can help get answers and reduce fears.
