Experience

Carrie Hunter holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. This program is accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. She is skillful in working with children, adolescents, adults, individuals, couples, and families. She welcomes diverse family systems, including gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex, and transgender persons. Carrie partners with clients in understanding unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving, then in designing and practicing new, more effective strategies for living.

Ms. Hunter skillfully assists clients experiencing symptoms of posttraumatic stress, depression, anxiety, dissociation, and panic, among other concerns. She has presented workshops on many topics including: the importance of play to children’s well-being, rape/sexual assault, domestic violence, heterosexism and homophobia, and the spiritual concerns of victimized persons.

Carrie has achieved Level II training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR has been shown to be effective in resolving posttraumatic stress symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, nightmares, and generalized fears.
